Sri Lanka’s Parliament Elects Ranil Wickremesinghe as President Amid Protests

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka—Ranil Wickremesinghe, a political veteran and six-time prime minister, was elected Sri Lanka’s president by Parliament Wednesday, because the nation seeks to chart its exit from its economic and social turmoil.

However Mr. Wickremesinghe stays extensively unpopular amongst Sri Lanka’s protest motion, who see him as intently aligned with former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who they’d fought to oust for months.
