Oil-Storage Disaster Intensifies Cuban Energy Crisis

Cuba introduced below management a serious fireplace that raged for five days at its principal oil-storage facility, consuming 4 of the eight tanks and critically hampering the nation’s means to import and retailer gasoline for its struggling electrical energy system.

The catastrophe, which the federal government mentioned was sparked by a lightning strike on Aug. 5, destroyed half of the oil-storage capability on the industrial port of Matanzas, some 50 miles east of the capital Havana. The two.4-million-barrel Matanzas terminal is Cuba’s principal logistics heart for imports, storage and distribution of gasoline, and the one port outfitted to deal with the supertankers used for delivery oil.
